Reactive Recycling™ reaches full commercial breakthrough with major customers now in steady-state production

09/03/2025

In Q4 2024 and Q2 2025, Nexam Chemical announced the onboarding of two major customers within the Recycling segment, both committed to scaling up the use of recycled plastics in industrial production. Nexam now confirms that both customers are fully operational, with deliveries reaching a steady run-rate.

On an annualized basis, the combined business already corresponds to 15 MSEK in turnover, with potential for both to grow further. This marks a decisive shift from trials and ramp-up to long-term, commercial-scale business.

For customers, Reactive Recycling™ provides measurable benefits:

Flexible packaging and film production – ensures stable production of packaging films with high recycled content and more cost-effective raw materials, without compromising mechanical strength or processing speed.
Rigid packaging and extrusion blow moulding of recycled PP (rPP), HDPE (rHDPE) and PET (rPET) – improving melt strength and toughness, allowing production of bottles, containers, and technical components with significantly higher recycled content.
Industrial components – enhancing durability and impact resistance in parts produced from recycled plastics, broadening the applications where recycled streams can replace virgin materials.

“When we announce a major customer, it is because we know the business has the potential to scale and last. These run-rate numbers confirm that Reactive Recycling™ is not just a concept, but a proven solution delivering real value to customers who need stronger, more reliable recycled plastics at scale – often also generating considerable savings,” says Ronnie Törnqvist, CEO of Nexam Chemical.

With these reference customers in steady operation, Nexam considers Reactive Recycling™ to have reached full commercial breakthrough. While the first wave of growth comes from two major accounts, the significance lies in what this demonstrates: that a few customers can generate meaningful turnover – in this case, approaching 10 percent of Nexam’s total sales – already at this early stage of commercialization. These initial customers provide clear proof of the technology’s scalability and relevance, while also serving as strong reference cases that underline the potential for further expansion as more companies seek to increase the quality and value of recycled plastics.
